24–26 October 2025
Venue: Department of Ethnomusicology and Ethnochoreology of the CAS, Puškinovo náměstí 447/9, 160 00 Praha 6 – Bubeneč
Researchers from academic institutions in several European countries (Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic) met at the workplace of the EU AV ČR at Pushkin Square as part of their regular meetings. The Prague meeting was organized for the umpteenth time by Daniela Stavělová. The project led by Prof. emeritus Egil Bakka (NTNU Norway) focuses on the study and analysis of European couple dances, whose roots extend back to the 16th-18th centuries, and which can be considered the forerunners of the waltz and polka that dominated the dance landscape in the 19th century. The aim is to capture the development of this element/technique over the centuries up to the present day, based on sources from across Europe. An application for funding from the European program ECHOES Cascading Grants Call, which supports smaller interdisciplinary projects that contribute data to the Heritage Cloud portal, is currently being processed. This program offers a platform for publishing films, texts, and image documentation in close connection, as well as advanced technology for systematizing and analysing this type of material.
Participants: Egil Bakka (chair) Catherine Dulin, László Felföldi, Dorota Gremlicová, Laura Kolackovská, Rebeka Kunej, Markus Lehner, Siri Mæland, Andriy Nahachewski, Mats Nilsson, Daniela Stavělová, Tor Stallvik, Hanna Verena Walsdorf
Online: Aleksandar Arabadjiev, Liz Mellish and Nick Green, Nikola Petrović, Jörgen Torp
