On Wednesday, April 1, President Petr Pavel visited the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Institute of Ethnology, and the Institute of Plasma Physics at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
Jiří Woitsch, Director of the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, introduced the President to some of the exhibits, archival drawings, and the range of research, including successes in securing European Research Council (ERC) grants. The Institute of Ethnology has approximately 55 employees and has secured five ERC grants over the past seven years. By comparison, the University of Cambridge, which has 20,000 employees, secured 150 such grants during the same period.
"We conduct research on the pressing issues of today’s world. For example, minorities, social polarization, disinformation, migration, and new religious movements. Simply put, things that shape how we live," said Woitsch.
