The Institute of Ethnology – Czech Academy of Sciences launches a Research Cluster
This newly launched cluster brings together researchers interested in Ukraine and its neighbouring countries with the aim of nurturing collaboration between individual researchers and institutions across and beyond disciplinary and state boundaries.
The Institute of Ethnology has long cultivated a research interest in Ukraine, Russia, and their neighbouring countries, reaching back to 19th-century folklore studies. Our predecessor – the Czechoslovak Institute for Ethnography and Folkloristics – mainly focused on Czech minorities in the former Soviet Union and Czech remigration. Since the 1990s, the focus has turned to labour migration from Ukraine and other countries in the region. Our recent research interests range from the history of the Czechoslovak presence in the area to the most current challenges at the EU’s eastern borders.
