RESEARCH PROFILE
My research explores the intersections of sport, migration, race, and identity, with a regional emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe and broader transnational connections, particularly with Africa. I am interested in how sport operates both as a mechanism of social integration and as a site where inequalities are reproduced – especially within post-socialist contexts.
A central focus of my work is on how racialized identities are negotiated in everyday life, with attention to how institutions, public discourse, and policy frameworks shape experiences of belonging and exclusion. I examine how migration, labour mobility, and national identity intersect in sports settings, and how these dynamics are informed by historical and geopolitical hierarchies.
Another strand of my research considers how racism is expressed and denied in the digital public sphere, particularly in relation to sport. This includes exploring the subtleties of online discourse, the framing of racialized bodies, and the shifting boundaries of what constitutes socially acceptable prejudice in contemporary societies.
I also engage with broader questions about global inequalities in sport, including the hierarchies embedded in the global circulation of athletes. My research combines ethnographic, discourse-analytical, and comparative methods, with a consistent interest in how everyday practices reflect larger social and structural processes.
