RESEARCH PROFILE
In my previous research, I mostly focused on the symbolic communication of early modern societies in Bohemia and Scotland, especially with regard to the role of crown jewels in how these societies understood power, hierarchy and tradition.
My current interest lies in the transformations of memory in the contemporary Czech Republic. In my doctoral project, I explore how Russia's ongoing full-scale military invasion of Ukraine impacts the memory of the 20th century. Specifically, I examine the development of the remembrance framework of the 1968 Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia into a dominant narrative addressing the war and how the proximity of the past invasion memory to today’s warfare mediation influences what is remembered through what means. The areas where I observe such mnemonic shifts include memory in digital space, memory politics, popular culture or monuments and memoryscape.
