The Department of Ecological Anthropology at the Institute of Ethnology, part of the Czech Academy of Sciences, is seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our vibrant and supportive team.
This is a research-only position, an opening for a candidate who seeks the freedom to further pursue their independent research agenda and produce high quality research.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in socio-cultural anthropology, ethnology, social geography, or other closely related disciplines. Applicants should demonstrate a strong track record of research and publications.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of our department. This includes advancing original research agendas aligned with the department’s main focus areas, which can be viewed here: Department of Ecological Anthropology.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Conduct and publish high-quality research in relevant fields.
- Build and mentor a research team, including doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, supported by external funding.
- Foster international collaborations and contribute to the department’s outreach activities.
Contract Terms:
- The position is offered as a three-year contract, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent position, contingent on a positive performance evaluation in line with the Institute’s guidelines.
- Salary ranging between 30 000 and 45 000 CZK before taxation dependent on the candidate's qualifications, in accordance with Czech Academy of Sciences and Institute of Ethnology regulations. (Please note that Czech academic salaries are modest. Successful candidates will be encouraged to take advantage of their non-teaching position to develop original research projects and apply for external funding. In so doing, they will be supported by a department and project management team who have a strong track record of obtaining high-profile European and national grants).
- The successful candidate is expected to assume the position in the first half of 2025 (later date negotiable).
Application Requirements:
- A letter of motivation outlining your interest in the position.
- A structured CV, including a list of publications.
